FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know before sending your metalwork, components or products for engraving or cutting. If you are unsure whether your project is suitable, just get in touch.

How does the process work?

Send us an email or WhatsApp message with details of your project, including photos, measurements, quantities, material information and any artwork you already have.

We will review the job and provide a quote based on the material, design, quantity and production requirements.

Once confirmed, you can send your items or material to our South Wales workshop. Where required, we will prepare the artwork and provide a digital mockup for approval before production begins.

Once the work is complete, we will send photos of the finished job and issue the invoice.

After payment, your order will be securely packaged and returned using an appropriate tracked delivery service.

What can you engrave?

We offer precision laser engraving on a wide range of metal products, components and custom pieces.

This includes branded tags, keyrings, plaques, product labels, serial plates, promotional items, metal components, hospitality pieces, corporate gifts and more.

We can engrave logos, text, QR codes, serial numbers, product information, identification numbers, symbols, illustrations and custom artwork.

If you have something specific in mind, send us a photo and we can advise.

What types of businesses do you work with?

We work with businesses across a wide range of sectors, including hospitality, retail, manufacturing, fashion, accessories, product design, gifting, jewellery, creative businesses and independent brands.

If your business uses metal products or components, there is a good chance we can help.

Can we send our own products or components to you?

Yes.

Many of our clients send their own products, components or metal directly to our workshop for engraving or cutting.

We recommend using a tracked and appropriately insured delivery service when sending valuable items or larger orders.

Can you supply the metal?

Yes, depending on the project.

We can source suitable metal for certain jobs, or you are welcome to supply your own material.

If you are unsure which option will be most cost effective, send us the specifications and quantity and we can advise.

What is the largest size you can engrave or cut?

Our standard laser working area is approximately 70 mm by 70 mm.

Some larger designs may be possible in stages depending on the shape and requirements of the project.

Send us the measurements before production and we can confirm what is possible.

What materials can you engrave?

We can engrave a range of metals including:

Gold
Silver
Platinum
Titanium
Stainless steel
Brass
Copper
Bronze

Different metals react differently to the laser, so the final finish can vary depending on the material.

If you are unsure whether your product is suitable, send us the material information or a photo.

Can you engrave coated or plated metal?

It depends on the material and coating.

Laser engraving may remove or alter the surface coating and reveal the material underneath.

We recommend discussing coated or plated products with us before production, particularly when appearance and colour consistency are important.

Can you engrave logos?

Yes.

Logo engraving is one of the main services we offer for commercial clients.

Clear vector artwork usually gives the best result. If you do not have suitable artwork, we can often prepare or convert your existing logo for laser engraving.

Very fine details may need to be adjusted depending on the final engraving size.

Can you engrave QR codes?

Yes.

We can engrave QR codes onto suitable metal surfaces for applications such as menus, product information, contact details, reviews, instructions and digital links.

The available space and material need to allow the code to remain clear enough to scan reliably.

Can you engrave serial numbers and product information?

Yes.

We can engrave sequential numbers, serial numbers, batch numbers, model information, identification codes and other product information.

This can be useful for manufacturers, equipment suppliers, product brands and businesses that need consistent identification across multiple pieces.

Do we need to provide artwork?

Not necessarily.

If you already have suitable artwork, you can send it to us.

We can also help prepare simple layouts, clean up existing designs and convert suitable artwork into a format ready for engraving or cutting.

Can you help with design and layout?

Yes.

We can help prepare the layout for your project and provide a digital mockup before production.

This allows you to check the positioning, scale and overall appearance before anything is permanently engraved or cut.

Will the engraving be black?

The appearance of laser engraving depends on the metal, engraving depth and finishing process.

Some metals can produce a darker engraved finish, while others produce a lighter or more subtle result.

If you have a particular finish in mind, let us know when requesting your quote.

Can the dark laser finish be removed?

In many cases, yes.

Depending on the material and project, the surface can often be cleaned, brushed, sanded or polished after engraving.

We can discuss the finishing options available before production begins.

Will engraving look the same on every metal?

No.

Different metals react differently to laser engraving.

Stainless steel, brass, silver, gold, titanium, copper and bronze can all produce slightly different finishes.

We will always aim for the cleanest and most appropriate finish for the material being used.

Can you deep engrave?

Yes.

We can offer deeper engraving for suitable projects where more depth is required.

This can be useful for branding, designs requiring a stronger tactile finish or pieces that will later be filled or finished.

Deep engraving takes longer than standard surface engraving and will therefore affect the cost.

Can you engrave large quantities?

Yes.

We can work with one off prototypes, small production runs and larger repeat batches.

For repeat commercial work, we can keep approved artwork and setup information on file to make future orders simpler.

Do you offer repeat production?

Yes.

Repeat commercial work is a major part of what Aura LaserWorks is designed for.

Once your design and specifications have been approved, we can reproduce the same engraving or cut design across future batches.

Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes.

Pricing for repeat and larger quantity work can be calculated differently from individual custom jobs.

Send us the product details, expected quantity and how regularly you expect to order and we can provide suitable pricing.

How much does engraving cost?

Pricing depends on the material, quantity, engraving size, artwork preparation, engraving depth, setup requirements and finishing.

A batch of identical branded pieces will usually be priced differently from an individual custom item.

Send us the details of your project and we will provide a quote.

Is there a minimum order?

We are happy to discuss prototypes and smaller jobs as well as production work.

For commercial projects, pricing will take setup time and artwork preparation into account, so larger quantities generally provide better value per piece.

How long does production take?

Turnaround depends on the type of project, quantity and artwork requirements.

Smaller engraving jobs can often be completed quickly, while larger batches and more involved cutting projects may require additional production time.

We will confirm an estimated turnaround when quoting.

Do you offer urgent work?

Where capacity allows, yes.

If you have a specific deadline, let us know when requesting your quote and we will confirm whether we can accommodate it.

How should we send items to you?

Once the project has been agreed, we will provide our workshop delivery details.

Items should be packaged securely and sent using a tracked service appropriate to their value.

Please include your business name and project details inside the parcel so we can identify the order when it arrives.

How will our order be returned?

Orders are securely packaged and returned using an appropriate tracked delivery service.

The delivery method will depend on the size, weight and value of the order.

Tracking information will be provided once your parcel has been dispatched.

Are customer supplied items insured?

We hold insurance covering customer goods while they are in our workshop, subject to the terms and limits of our policy.

Goods should also be appropriately insured while in transit to and from the workshop.

If you are sending particularly valuable items, please let us know beforehand.

Can you laser cut as well as engrave?

Yes.

We offer precision laser cutting alongside our engraving service.

We can produce custom shapes, branded tags, keyring blanks, plaques, product components, labels and other small metal pieces.

The maximum cutting thickness is around 1.3 mm depending on the material and design.

Which metals can you cut?

We can laser cut suitable:

Sterling silver
Gold
Brass
Copper

Cutting suitability depends on the thickness and design, so we recommend sending us the material specifications before ordering.

Can you produce finished pieces?

Yes, depending on the product.

We can cut, engrave, clean, sand and polish metal pieces so they are ready for use, assembly or packaging.

For products requiring specialist processes outside our workshop, such as welding, soldering, stone setting or complex fabrication, we will let you know what additional work would still be required.

Can you create prototypes?

Yes.

We are happy to work on prototypes and sample pieces before moving into larger production quantities.

This can be particularly useful for testing sizing, artwork, materials and finishes before committing to a full batch.

Can you make branded metal tags?

Yes.

We can create custom branded tags for products, packaging, accessories, jewellery, clothing, leather goods and other applications.

These can be engraved with logos, text, numbers or other branding and produced in repeat batches.

Can you make custom keyrings?

Yes.

We can cut and engrave custom metal keyrings for businesses, corporate gifting, hospitality, property companies, events and promotional use.

Both individual designs and larger quantities are available.

Still have a question?

Send us a photo, drawing or description of what you are looking to produce, along with the material, approximate size and quantity.

We will take a look and let you know what is possible.
